About the 2024 Gangwon Youth Olympics

 

Starting on January 19, 2024, and running through February 1, the 2024 Gangwon Youth Olympics will be the fourth edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games and the first to take place outside Europe. The event expects 1,900 athletes from 70 countries to compete for 81 medals across 15 different events. The games will be held in the eastern Gangwon region, with events spread between the mountainous areas of Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, and Hoengseong, and the coastal Gangneung. The 2024 Gangwon Youth Olympics aims to showcase the culture and values of Korea while promoting peace and harmony among the global youth. By volunteering for this event, you can contribute to creating an unforgettable experience for young athletes and fostering a spirit of unity and friendship across borders.

 

Volunteer Applications Now Open

 

The 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics Organizing Committee announced on Monday that they are now accepting volunteer applications for the prestigious event. With 2,030 volunteer positions available, anyone aged 15 and older can apply through May 31 at volunteers.gangwon2024.org. Youth, in particular, are encouraged to volunteer, as the Youth Olympics is a tournament designed for teenagers. Volunteering for the event not only provides a fantastic learning experience but also allows young people to support their peers from around the world.Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in eight different job areas, including athlete support, media operations, communications and technology, events and protocol, competition operations, general operations, medical support, and regional support.

 

Benefits and Recognition and International Applicants Welcome

 

Volunteers will receive 2024 Gangwon Youth Olympics uniforms, meals, and, if necessary, accommodation and transportation. All volunteer work at the Gangwon Games will be acknowledged as official volunteer hours. International students and foreign residents living in Korea are welcome to apply for volunteer roles. However, basic Korean conversation skills are required to understand their responsibilities and collaborate with the rest of the team. Some Korean volunteers will also need foreign language skills for roles that involve communication with athletes or officials.
